Dear On-campus Residents: This note does not affect residents of Pritchard, Ambler-Johnston, East Eggleston, Newman, Main Eggleston, Thomas, O'Shaughnessy, Pearson, or Monteith halls. If you are assigned to one of these buildings, you can delete this email. You will be using traditional brass keys for your individual room doors at the start of the fall semester. For others, a quick reminder about buildings with the new door locks is listed below. Please take a few minutes to review. ********************************************************* As we start the fall 2016 semester, we will be enabling electronic card access on your residence hall doors. * A video about opening your door can be found at: https://youtu.be/FpkCYuynp64 * On 5 August, I sent you an e-mail with your 4-digit PIN number to access your room in conjunction with your student ID card. The building staff will have a list of PIN numbers in case you forget at check-in, but please check for that e-mail before you arrive. * The first time you access the door, please hold the card to the door for a bit longer than you normally would expect. The door is connecting to the Hokie Passport system to authenticate you. After that time, the door will remember you and it will work faster. Incoming first-year students and transfer students received new Hokie Passports with the new chip technology (aptiQ / RFID) embedded. The cards will continue to have a magnetic strip on the back for use in the exterior door swipe locations. If you have lost your new ID card, you will need to proceed to Hokie Passport before checking in to your residence hall for a new ID ($20 replacement fee). If you did not attend Orientation, please go to Hokie Passport to have your first ID made. Some returning students have made new IDs in the last couple weeks, but most of you will receive a NEW Hokie Passport card at check-in. The Hokie Passport Office is making new Hokie Passport cardss for residents of these buildings and they will be available to you at check-in. You will need to turn in your old Hokie Passport to get your new card. If you have lost your Hokie Passport, you will be required to sign an Authorization to Charge form for the $20 replacement fee. If you do not have your Hokie Passport, you will need to show pictured, government-issued ID (US Passport or Passport from your country of origin, driver's license, or U.S. Military ID). A new Hokie Passport cannot be issued without proper identification. Once you are on campus in the residential network (wired-ethernet or eduroam connection), you will be able to follow the directions below to set a more memorable PIN. The PIN change happens very fast after you submit it. STEPS TO CHANGE A HOKIE PASSPORT ID PIN NUMBER * Go to the cbord CS Gold Webcard Center: http://laundry.hokiepassport.vt.edu (yes, the laundry portal is where the PIN number is located) * Log in with your university PID and password * You will then see a list of your accounts such as Hokie Passport monies, Dining Dollars, etc. that you may have. * On the left hand side, you should see "Set PIN" Click on that link. If you see a small grey box with 3 dots, click on that and the menu will appear. * Enter your 4-digit pin number and hit submit. * Logout of the system by closing your browser or using the Logout link on the left side of the page. We look forward to seeing you back on campus for the fall term! Cordially, Kenneth E.
